This painting had many iterations.  It began as a work using asphalt.    I then kept adding layers, bringing some things to the forefront and blocking others. To the asphalt I added sweeping, yellow ribbons and then I painted over them and applied crackling.  Then it sat for months. When I looked at it again I had an inspired moment: a rich, turquoise glaze.
