I began this piece with the simple intention of completing a mixed media piece. I chose materials in a somewhat random manner to complete an arbitrary, abstract piece.  I worked quickly. I stood back and looked at the work trying to see if I could make any sense of it.

I cogitated over that for a week or so.  When I went back and looked at the piece again, I stood there naming the mixed media elements:  paint, string, bandages, vinegar and brown paper.

Vinegar and brow paper……..Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water, Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after.

They mended Jack’s head with vinegar and brown paper.

I was staggered.  I had told the essential story of my father and the story of his death after he had broken his crown.
